Cacao was introduced to Madagascar by French colonialists in the 19th century. The country produces nearly 3,000 tons of beans a year. Most of the trees are concentrated in the Sambirano Valley in the northwest, where soil and climate are ideal for growing high quality cacao. This chocolate bar is made from organic cacao beans from Bejofo Estate, owned and managed by Bertil Akesson, who is also makes bean-to-bar chocolate using his own cacao beans.
